Artist's Description
Saint Melangell was an Irish princess consecrated to celibacy. To escape an arranged marriage, she fled, living in a remote forest in Wales for many years. A Welsh prince was hunting hare, and when his dogs gave up coursing and stood howling, he dismounted and plunged into the thick woods- only to find a beautiful virgin holding the hare.
After hearing her story, the Prince gave her the land. She built a small abbey, and it is the site of pilgrimages to this day.
