Artist's Description

Saint Dorothy is usually portrayed with fruit and flowers, because on her way to her execution, a Roman mocked her saying; 'Bride of Christ, send me some flowers from the paradise of your bridegroom.' It was the middle of winter, and such things could not be found in Rome. After her beheading, the man was amazed when a youth approached him and held out a cloth filled with cherries and roses. She is the patron saint of gardeners.
